A newly formed environmental interest group, Bucks-Mont People for Clean Water, aims to tackle the subject of local drinking water contamination during its first public forum Sunday.

The forum will address concerns over the contamination of water supplies in Warminster, Warrington, and Horsham with unregulated chemicals perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). According to a press release from the group, the signature event on Sunday will be a presentation from Richard Clapp, a professor of environmental health at Boston University and epidemiologist who has studied the health effects of PFOA.

Clapp will discuss his research via the online video service Skype and, according to the release, will offer his viewpoint on why “a very strict standard for PFOA in our drinking water is required and why science reveals that the EPA health advisory is not protective of human health.” A public question-and-answer session will follow, the release states.

The event is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. at “The Fuge” event space, located on the former Naval Air Warfare Center, 780 Falcon Circle, Warminster.

In addition to local residents, the group’s advisory board comprises members of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network and Clean Water Action. The organization’s email is bmcleanwater@gmail.com and phone number is 215-680-2270.
