The PA AWWA and DBIA Liberty Annual Conference is fast approaching, and I for one am excited. For the past four years, I have had a large part in planning and putting together portions of this conference, mainly on the DBIA and Water For People Silent Auction side, but each year I am overwhelmed at the way this conference has continued to grow and become more and more relevant to the changing climate in the Industry. I am thrilled to once again be running the DBIA Liberty portion of the conference as well as overseeing the Water For People Silent Auction (With the help of Tony Bellitto of North Penn Water, my wife Sandy, and Bob Corvino and Jessica O’Hara here at Stone Hill). Did you realize that DBIA Liberty is currently the front runner in planning and holding a conference such as this, and we do it on an annual basis thanks to our friends at PA AWWA.

This year there a number of exciting things going on at the conference that I wanted to make sure you were aware of, and take part in. These things range from tours to networking events to the annual silent auction.

Here are some of the great things you may want to be part of during the conference:

*       Water For People Silent Auction – The PA AWWA Committee is once again holding a silent auction during the conference. The silent auction will run from 2PM on Wednesday, May 11th through 12:30 PM on Thursday May 12th. Many items are being assembled, including sports memorabilia, gift cards, movie and television memorabilia as well as many other items. Be sure to stop by and see what all we have to offer. Even better, why  not donate an item or two to be included in the auction. A donation form is attached for those of you who are interested. Remember credit cards are accepted for payment, so if you lose all your money gambling at the casino, you can still bid on these great items.

*       Victaulic Tour Wednesday May 11th – This year our friends at Victaulic have teamed up with DBIA Liberty to offer a free tour of their facility in Forks Township (Easton), PA. Vans will be provided, leaving Sands Hotel Casino at 7:30 AM, to take you to the world headquarters of the pipe connection leader. Come see how Victaulic engineers, fabricates and tests some of the most advanced pipe jointing products in the world. Lunch will be provided as well as return transportation. While the tour is free to conference attendees, registration is required. You can register by stating your  intent to take part during the PA AWWA registration process, or by contacting me at Stone Hill and I will add you to the list. DBIA members can obtain credit hours for this tour.

*       DBIA Liberty Networking Event May 11th – For the third year in a row DBIA Liberty has put together great networking events for all attendees to the PA AWWA and DBIA Liberty Conferences. From renting out Coca-Cola Park (Home of the Iron Pigs) to renting out part of the Hollywood Casino, these events have been well attended and great for just relaxing or networking with friend and colleagues. During the first three years there were close to 100 people in attendance at these events, and this year looks to be even bigger. This year DBIA Liberty working with PA AWWA seems to have gone even bigger and better, by taking over Vison Bar at the Sands, and bringing in world renown band Water Hammer. Okay so maybe they are not world renown, but they are fantastic, and let’s face it what better named group would perform at a Water Conference? Water Hammer is made up of water industry professionals from the New Jersey Section of AWWA. If you have attended a NJ AWWA Conference in Atlantic City, you have probably heard them. Made up of 11 water industry professionals they play oldies as well as current material, and they will be at Vision Bar on Wednesday Night May 11th. The event will run from 7PM to 10 PM food and beverages will be provided, and this event is FREE to those in attendance at the conference. NOTE: YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A WRISTBAND IN ORDER TO ATTEND THIS FREE EVENT. WRISTBANDS ARE AVAILABLE IN ADVANCE FROM STONE HILL CONTRACTING, OR AT THE DBIA AND STONE HILL CONTRACTING BOOTHS ON THE EXHIBIT FLOOR. Sponsorships are still available for this event, see the attached form for more information.

*       DBIA LIBERTY Sessions  May 12th – The fourth Annual DBIA Liberty Conference is bigger and better than ever, with a large and diverse group of sessions. DBIA Members can receive over 11 credit hours by attending the tour and the sessions, that is almost as many as are available at the national conferences. Come see about the new technology of converting wastewater into heat as is being done in Camden, New Jersey, or sit and listen as the panel discusses their thoughts on alternative procurement methods, or for those who have less knowledge about Design Build, listen to the introduction session to hear some of the differences and advantages of design build construction. Keep in mind that in order to register you must register for the PA AWWA conference, and in so doing you are free to sit in on any of the sessions DBIA Liberty has put together, or sit in on the sessions PA AWWA is holding – one low price – one location lots of credits ( DEP, AIA and PE credits are also available), how can you go wrong? Register today at<>.

*       DBIA LIBERTY CONFERENCE SPONSORSHIPS – DBIA Liberty receives no income from the conference registration, so they rely solely on sponsorships to cover their expenses, which include advertising, the cost of the networking event, speaker expenses, signage, and other conference related expenses. If you would like to help by being a DBIA Liberty Sponsor, please take a look at the attached sponsorship form. There are still sponsorships available which will provide you with exposure at the conference as well as at the Networking event on Wednesday event.

Before Closing I would be remiss in not mentioning the following upcoming Water For People Events in Pennsylvania, Please be sure to put them on your calendar:

*       Wednesday, May 25th – Water For People Beer Tasting and Happy Hour  – Join us from 6PM to 8PM at Station TapHouse in Doylestown, PA. for a night of Beer (and wine and soft drinks), food and great conversation and an overall great time. The cost is just $30/person and includes drinks and food. Raffle baskets will also be available for bidding.  For more information see attached flyer or contact Sandy McIntyre –<>

*       Thursday July 21st PA AWWA Water For People Night at the Pittsburgh Pirates – This is a great opportunity for those people on the Western Side of the State to take part in helping to raise funds and awareness for Water For People. Previous years close to 100 people were in attendance for this event, and we are hoping more will take part this year. For more information please see the attached flyer

*       Monday August 15th – PA AWWA Charity Golf Outing Benefitting Water For People – Another long standing event in PA is the PA AWWA Charity Golf Outing Benefitting Water For People. This year’s event will be held at Sandy Run Country Club in Oreland, PA. More information is on its way, but will be available at the conference.

*       September 2016 – Although the date is yet to be determined, the First Annual Water For People Coach Bag Bingo will be held at the Doylestown Legion Hall. Sponsorships will be available and additional information is available by contacting Jessica O’Hara<>.

*       Thursday November 10th – 11th Annual Stone Hill Contracting Water For People Gala – Each Year Stone Hill Contracting is the title sponsor of the Gala they started on their own 11 years ago at William Penn in Gwynedd, PA. This is a wonderful way to spend an evening in November as we give thanks for the many blessings that we have and at the same time reflect on those less fortunate who are need of clean water and sanitation. Please note that this is a date change due to scheduling difficulties. It will be on the Second Thursday of November unlike previous years when it was the first Thursday.

If you have any questions or need more information please do not hesitate to contact me at our office. Thanks for reading this lengthy e-mail and I look forward to seeing you all at the conference next month.

Winter 2014: PA-AWWA Water for People Update from Bob McIntyre:

As this cold January swiftly comes to an end, and Phil (the Groundhog, not my Nephew) gets ready to poke his head out to looks for his shadow. I for one hope it is a cloudy day and that there will be an electrical outage to assure there is no stray light in Punxsutawney so there is no way for there to be a shadow – This has been one long January!

There is good news though, Thirsty Thursday is Next Thursday, February 6th. Join us beginning at 5PM at the Village Tavern in Montgomeryville, where we will celebrate the ensuing end of Winter, or the person who took out Phil (Again the Groundhog, not my Nephew, although…  – Just kidding).

There will be a supply of Girl Scout Cookies this month, so be sure to bring your $4 per box, and support the Girl Scouts. IF you have a favorite variety (Lemonades, Shortbread, Thanks-a-lot, Mint, Peanut butter Patties, Peanut Butter sandwich, Cranberry Citrus Crisps or Carmel Delights) just let me know so I make sure I have them with me. Also if you want to buy a large number, just let me know how many and what flavor, and I will bring them as well. They are just $4 per box, and you can’t beat the taste of a Girl Scout Cookie.

Speaking of Rylee  (my daughter that is a Girl Scout – I am not one), her cheer squad is having what I think is a unique fund raiser. They are collecting old clothes and small toys (nothing larger than 18” Square) and they will be paid by the pound for useable items, which will then be distributed to people of need both here in the US and throughout the World. A flyer about the drive is attached. You need not drop them in my driveway (like I want trash bags piling in my driveway) you can either bring them next Thursday or drop them off at Stone Hill before February 12th.

There are also some coming Events that you won’t want to miss:

March 18, 2014 – NJ AWWA / DBIA Water Conference at Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. Much like the PA Conference last year, this year there will also be Design Build Sessions at the NJ AWWA Conference in Atlantic City. For more information or to register go to

May 2014 – WFP Night at the Philadelphia Union. This night will feature a Tailgate party, which you or your firm can sponsor. This is a great opportunity to bring friends, family clients, and business associates out for a great night of Soccer, Come cheer on the home team 9or the away team for all I care.

May 8th, 2014 –PA AWWA / DBIA Water Conference at Sands Hotel Casino in Bethlehem, PA. This is a great opportunity to come out and learn more about Design Build in the Water Industry. Sponsorships for this event, as well as the May 7th Networking Event at Coca-Cola Park are still available. Information for these events should be available in the next week or so.

June 8th – 11th, 2014 – Join Water For People as they host a Chartered Bus to Boston for ACE 2014. Space will be limited, but it will save you money and will be an enjoyable time where you can network with people from PA on their way to the greatest water show. If you are interested in this event, or in being a sponsor for the trip, or if you would like to have the ability to ship some items on the bus, please let us know ASAP, so we can get all things in place. Pick-ups and drop offs will be coordinated in the Harrisburg and Lehigh Valley Locations.

June 2014 – PA AWWA Water For People Charity Golf Event – Information on this event, which is to be held in the Philadelphia Five (5) County Area, will be available next week

August 8th, 2014 – Water For People Night at the Ballpark – Water for People Pa has come up with another great idea to help promote clean water and sanitation throughout the world, with Two (2) simultaneous Baseball fundraisers. One will be held at Citizens Bank Park with the Phillies game, while the second will be held at the other Bank – PNC Park in Pittsburgh at the Pirates Game. Which side of state will show the most support for this event? Will Pittsburgh prove to be stronger than Philadelphia? Who will sponsor which event? Who will be smart and take advantage of sponsoring both events at the same time. This should be fun, and will give bragging rights to one side of the state – unless there is a tie in number of tickets sold! Information on this great event will be available shortly.

November 6th, 2013 – PA AWWA Water For People Gala – Hosted by Stone Hill Contracting at William Penn Inn – I know it is a way off, but put it on your calendar and plan on joining us for this great evening, where Tony Bellitto will be presenting a talk on his upcoming trip for Water For People

It looks to be a fun and exciting year in the PA Region – Make sure to add all these events to your calendar and to plan on joining for all of them. Keep your eyes open for more information in the coming weeks for these and other great opportunities.

United Water PA. employees donate $900 to Water for People

United Water Pennsylvania employees donated $900 to Water for People from contributions made by each employee that participated in “Dress-Down Day” during 2013.  “Our employees wanted to benefit the Water for People cause because they know the funds will be used to establish sustainable water projects for people in developing nations,” according to Public Affairs Manager Bob Manbeck.
