The Borough of Fleetwood, located in Berks County Pennsylvania, seeks applicants for the position of Water Department Superintendent.

The position is full time (40 hours per week), with 24/7 on-call responsibilities for emergencies and occasional weekend and holiday work as scheduled.  Successful candidate will be responsible for administration, operation and maintenance of the entire water treatment plant and collection system, with additional responsibilities described below.  The position requires that under direction, to make decisions and implement actions, based on technical knowledge of the process and process controls; control the manipulation of equipment, and thereby determine the quality of the potable water from the systems wells and springs; monitor SCADA; initiate commands to operation system to control operations; respond to alarms; take corrective action to remedy condition; inspect facilities and equipment to ensure proper working conditions; interact with public officials and public concerning facility and distribution system operating conditions and problems; perform general maintenance of water treatment facilities and grounds, and distribution system; and lab sampling/testing.  The system consists of eight wells, three springs, three storage tanks, a chlorination building and sixteen miles of water main.   Approximately 0.5 million gallons per day are produced.  The individual will report to the Borough’s Public Works Director and the Public officials.

Successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • Current State of Pennsylvania certification for Water Operator Classes B and E, Subclasses 7, 8 and 12.
  • High School education or GED.
  • Reside within 15miles from the Borough of Fleetwood, or be willing to relocate.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of drinking water standards and regulations; water treatment plant, well, storage tank and water distribution systems operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable in operation of computer operated and controlled systems.
  • Ability to understand technical and regulatory manuals, drawings, technical specifications and electrical/electronic diagrams/schematics
  • Ability to compute statistical data and post to record.
  • Knowledge of current safety standards and procedures applicable to treatment plant environment.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment and capability to perform minor repairs.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience is favored.

Successful candidate must pass complete background investigation including reference, employment, criminal, driving, and personal records check and pre-employment drug screening test.
