The Borough of Carlisle is seeking candidates for the position of Treatment Plant Operator

The Borough of Carlisle is seeking candidates for the position of Treatment Plant Operator at the Carlisle Water Treatment Plant, located at 165 Longs Gap Road, Carlisle, PA.

This is specialized work in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant in order to provide a safe, high quality finished water product to the public. The plant operator is responsible for operating the facility in such a manner as to meet DEP and EPA standards.

The plant operator will be assigned to the regular rotating shift, for this position it will involve the Midnight to 8:00 am shift to be worked every other week. A training period will precede the shift work. An employee in this class is in complete charge of the plant on evening and weekend shifts.

The work is supervised directly by the plant supervisor. Available for work related calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round. The plant operator is expected to become fully licensed by standards and testing set by the Pennsylvania DEP. A General Exam and six subclasses are necessary for the proper license of a plant operator for a Class 1A water treatment facility such as Carlisle’s.

Graduation from a senior or vocational high school, and three years experience in the operation of a water treatment plant employing filtration and chemical treatment, is desirable.

Successful completion of course work involving the nationally recognized SACRAMENTO training series is a plus. College work or degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, or related field is desirable, but not mandatory.
