You may have already seen this information in today’s AWWA Washington Insider, but for 2023, the Water Matters! Fly-In will be March 15-16. The headquarters hotel will once again be the Washington Marriott at Metro Center, in the middle of downtown D.C., and convenient to Metro.

A new session of Congress is convening is January, with a number of new members and new committee chairs. They will need to learn who AWWA is, what expertise we can provide them and what our key legislative concerns are. In talking to congressional staff, I get the impression that accessing congressional office buildings and going from office to office will be less complicated this year. Last year, to entering a building, a staffer from the office you were going to visit had to meet you at the entrance and escort you to the meeting. I think things will be looser this year.

The March date is a little earlier than in some years, so we all face a shorter time frame to get prepared. The Government Affairs Office in Washington will be sending out registration and hotel registration information in the coming weeks. Remember that we reimburse travel expenses for one AWWA delegate for every 10 members of the U.S. House of Representatives that a state has. Sections are free to send additional delegates at the Section’s, delegate’s or employer’s own expense. We do need everyone registered who is coming so we can make sure that everyone from a given state knows who is coming from that state, and they can coordinate congressional visits.

If you are unfamiliar with the Fly-In, I have attached a background paper and a copy of AWWA’s policy regarding volunteer travel.

Thanks, and the whole team here looks forward to working with you!
