Description/Responsibilities

Our firm’s Water Business Line provides full service consulting to drinking water and wastewater clients with our nearly 150 professionals and supporting disciplines. Projects include master planning/studies, treatment facilities, conveyance and collection systems, storage facilities, wastewater reclamation and reuse, bio-solids and residuals management, industrial pretreatment, modeling, and instrumentation/SCADA. Many of our projects have won state and national awards and the volume of our work routinely ranks us among the top 20 U.S. water firms, top 30 “pure designers,” and top 40 “green design” firms according to ENR.

Our Water Business Line with offices in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Arizona, has an excellent career opportunity for a Water Business Line Director to lead strategy and growth initiatives and to serve clients throughout all of our current and future geographic regions.

Key Objectives

  • Expand geographic, technical and experience capabilities through targeted acquisitions, strategic teaming, and hiring of talented professionals.
  • Develop and sustain a client focused culture and enhanced organizational framework that increases our ability to identify, position and capture new clients and projects.
  • Develop professionals with requisite skills, both client facing and technical, across the company via shared experience opportunities, new hires, training and coaching.
  • Maintain core financial strength through retention of existing clients, fully considering succession of client managers and its impact on client satisfaction and retention.
  • Grow revenue and enhance profitability

This position has significant impact in driving the strategic direction of Gannett Fleming. Accordingly, this individual will lead market development and growth initiatives by:

  • Developing and directing execution of the overall Water Business Line strategy and business plan.
  • Ensuring proper communication and collaboration within the business line and across Regions and other related Business Lines, particularly, Earth Sciences’ dams practice.
  • Securing corporate investment for the Water elements of the corporate strategic action plan, Water business plans, and Water business development plans.
  • Driving business development and capture management collaboratively through the business line team.
  • Leading effective Client Management.
  • Serving as Client / Capture Manager on strategic initiatives.

Significant responsibility of operational performance with the Regional Directors in support of attaining corporate performance goals is an important function of this role. Accordingly, this individual will lead Water Business Line operations by:

  • Supporting the Water Business Plan execution through the Regional Water Business Line Leaders.
  • Holding the regional business line accountable for growth and operational profitability.
  • Balancing business line resource loading across all regions.
  • Helping attain universal compliance with the “Best Practices” and quality standards developed by the PLT.
  • Serving as Project Principal on strategic accounts.

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • Broad proven experience in the water/wastewater industry including engineering design, Construction Management, Program Management and engineering organization operations management.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience and proven track record of successful revenue generation and business development with engineering organizations of similar or greater size and complexity.
  • Industry leader with the proven ability to anticipate, articulate, and respond to national/regional issues that impact the water business and the construction industry.
  • Proven knowledge and relationships with major water agencies and companies.
  • Professional Network of potential teaming partners, major contractors, specialty subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Proven experience with the full spectrum of alternative delivery systems, as well as ability to assess feasibility of alternative delivery prospects.
  • Track record of building effective teams, nurturing individuals and collaborating with others.

Description/Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated Water/Wastewater Project Manager to support planning and design projects pertaining to pipelines, pump stations, and treatment plants. This position is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Responsibilities:

  • All design aspects of a project, including plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, etc.
  • Supervise the work of engineers on the project(s) including planning and final design assignments.
  • Project QA/QC
  • Project staffing and scheduling
  • Project costing and progress reporting
  • Client Management
  • Assist in business development efforts

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required; a Master of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is preferred.
  • A P.E. is required.
  • Must have 10 to 20 years of applicable Water/Wastewater 
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Revit is preferred.
  • Experience with wastewater process design including modeling (GPS-X Hydromantis or BioWin) is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Must have the ability to thrive in a team environment.
