Pennsylvania American Water (PAWC) hosted members of PA-AWWA at the Hays Mine Water Treatment Plant on September 26, 2019. Sixteen (16) water industry professionals attended a presentation and tour of Hays Mine (the largest drinking water facility for Pennsylvania American Water). Attendees learned about the plant’s history and the company’s other local drinking water treatment plant, the E.H. Aldrich facility in Elrama, Washington County. The two plants are able to deliver 110 MGD into areas south of Pittsburgh, supplying potable water to over 650,000 customers. Pennsylvania American Water’s team highlighted the 140-year-old WTP including their use of super pulsators, mixed media filters, and chloramination to provide the highest quality drinking water. Attendees were able to ask additional questions about the plant to water quality supervisors, engineers, operators, and the plant superintendent while on the tour. After the tour, the PA-AWWA YP Committee hosted attendees at nearby Mindful Brewing for casual food and craft beer.”
