Opportunities for YP’s to get involved at PA-AWWA 69th Annual Conference

At this year’s annual conference, there are some new opportunities for YPs to get involved:

1)      Conference Moderators

As a new initiative to get YPs involved and experienced, PA-AWWA is looking for YP’s who would like to volunteer to be technical session Moderators. Moderator responsibilities are addressed in the Attachment.  If you have questions or wish to volunteer, please contact Curt Fontaine at 724-755-5950 or at

2)      Conference Mentees

For the very newest of YP’s or those who have not attended the annual PA-AWWA conference before, this is a great way to get your bearings as well as make a connection with a more experienced professional. The new mentoring program is set up so that you will be assigned a mentor before the conference who will act as your guide to the conference and hopefully to the industry in general. If you’d like to sign up or have any questions, please email Amy Batdorf at

3)      Conference Mentors

If you just read the description for “mentees” and thought to yourself that you don’t need a mentor since you’ve attended the conference a number of times, maybe it’s time you signed up to be a mentor to our younger YPs! This is a chance to make a new friend, share some of your career wisdom and make the conference experience better for our mentees. You can invest as much time as you like, but our guidelines are simply that you make sure to set up a meet & greet with your mentee in advance and then make sure to check in at least daily and be available for questions or support. If this sounds like a fit for you, please email Amy Batdorf at

Keynote Speaker…Attention Pittsburgh Steeler Fans!!!

Craig Wolfley

Craig-Wolfley-BioCraig Wolfley is a 12-year veteran of the NFL who played 10 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and 2 years with the Minnesota Vikings. Craig was selected in 2000 as a member of the Steelers All-Century Team, voted online by Pittsburgh fans as a “team” of the best players to ever wear a Steeler uniform. (Craig says that being selected was obviously the first Y2K computer glitch of the new millennium.) He was also chosen to be part of the Syracuse University 20th Century All-Star Team.

Craig remains a Steeler as he is a member of the game day network broadcast team, and also co-hosts a radio show with his best friend and former line mate Tunch Ilkin on 970am ESPN Pittsburgh. With the launch of his new web site Craig is now an avid blogger and has his own popular Internet radio podcast.

Practically speaking, Craig has lived his entire life as a human crash test dummy. He successfully competing in diverse venues such as the World’s Strongest Man and the NFL’s Strongest Man competitions, boxed professionally and placed 2nd in the first professional Sumo contest held on the North American continent. He holds a black belt in Freestyle Jiu Jitsu and has over 19 years of martial arts training – including being one of the original founders of the Power Punch program, taught to professional and amateur football players and teams throughout the United States.

Craig was not content to excel only on the athletic field. Academia wise, as evidenced by his 3rd place finish in his 6th grade spelling bee, Craig is a staunch believer in the scholar-athlete. His motto is “Sit mens sana in corpore sano” – a healthy mind in a healthy body.
