North Penn Water Authority is accepting applications for Water Quality Technician (Part-Time)

 JOB TITLE:                          Water Quality Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:     Collect and transport distribution water samples to comply with regulatory requirements.  Perform chemical and physical analyses of water that are required for compliance monitoring, customer inquiries, and water supplier needs.  Restock materials and reagents as well as clean laboratory glassware and instrumentation.  This is a skilled, technical and professional position.  It requires organization, attention to detail and thorough understanding of analytical, quality control and data management processes used in a water quality laboratory.

TYPE OF POSITION:         Part-Time


HOURS: 15 – 20 hours/week – Must be able to work Monday through Thursday.  Hours of work will typically occur between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.

Interested individuals must apply at


  1. Collect and transport water samples. Use proper sampling technique, identify and collect representative samples and follow proper handling and chain of custody procedures.
  2. Perform field tests in the distribution system. Field tests include chlorine residual, pH, temperature, etc.
  3. Perform physical analyses of water samples in laboratory such as pH, turbidity, conductivity, alkalinity, etc.
  4. Assist other analysts as needed.
  5. Follow all procedures as listed in Standard Operating Procedures and approved methods.
  6. Perform and record all required quality control and quality assurance protocols.
  7. Clean laboratory sample bottles and glassware.
  8. Maintain reagents and supplies used in laboratory.
  9. Prepare sample bottles for collection of water samples.
  10. Enter laboratory data into database.
  11. Receive samples and log samples into LIMS database.
  12. Perform all other tasks or special functions as directed by Water Quality Manager.


An Associate’s degree in biology, chemistry, or environmental science; or significant course work toward a degree or previous experience in water treatment or water distribution systems; or equivalent work experience.

Must have a valid driver’s license
