AWWA Proposed Comments on LCR

AWWA Proposed Comments on LCR

AWWA today submitted its comments on the proposed changes to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule. We are grateful to all the Sections who have developed their own comments and helped the Association refine its comments.

The Sections and utilities can still submit comments to the EPA via www.regulations.gov to Docket No. EPA-HQ-OW-2017-0300 by Feb. 12. The Association’s comments may be of help in crafting them.

AWWA also issued a public statement from David LaFrance that highlights both progress in the LCR and some of AWWA’s recommendations for improvement. The Association is issuing a regulatory advisory to member utilities this afternoon.

The U.S. House Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change has scheduled a Tuesday, Feb. 11, hearing that will likely generate media attention. The 10:30 a.m. ET hearing is titled, “EPA’s Lead and Copper Proposal: Failing to Protect Public Health.”

Additional information related to lead and AWWA activity on this issue is available from our Managing Lead in Drinking Water web page and the Lead Resource page.
