Attention PA-AWWA Members: Upcoming Opportunity to help others

PA AWWA member Stone Hill Contracting (Doylestown, PA) has set aside the month of November each year to give back in appreciation for the many blessing that the company has experienced over their 37 in operation in the construction of water and wastewater facilities throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. The month of November was chosen because of Thanksgiving, as way of giving thanks for the many blessings the Company as well as its management, employees and others associated with the company have experienced.

Stone Hill kicks of their month by being the organizing sponsor of the PA AWWA Water For People Gala, held on the first Thursday of November each year. This event is in its 13th year and has raised in excess of $100,000 over the years for Water For People. During the first few years, Stone Hill held this event on their own, but since their Director of Development became the Chair of the PA AWWA Water For People Committee, he quickly changed it to be a PA AWWA event with Stone Hill being the host of this great event. This year’s event will be held on November 1st beginning at 5:00 PM at William Penn Inn in Gwynedd, PA.

Stone Hill continues on through the month of November with two other ways to help the needy both locally and also internationally, and they would like to have you join them for this event as well.

I. Operation Christmas Child Packing Party – In 2016 over 11 Million shoe boxes were pack and shipped by Operation Christmas Child, to young people throughout the world. On Friday, November 9th, 2018 at 12 Noon Stone Hill employees along with their Friends, Vendors, Clients, and acquaintances (who later become friends) will hold a packing party. Last year this small group packed over 300 boxes that were shipped around the world to help your people who otherwise may never receive a gift in their entire life. The boxes are distributed to over 150 Countries throughout the World. It should be noted that although Operation Christmas Child and it’s parent organization is a Christian Organization, Religion is not what it is about. Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child seek to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way through each shoebox gift. One of their core values is to never be manipulative. They work in and through local volunteers in each country that understand their context and are respectful to the people they serve. At the same time, they do seek to share the Gospel wherever they go, which can be challenging at times. In some regions, they are not permitted to distribute literature, but they are still grateful for the opportunity to bless the children with gift boxes carefully prepared by people who love children. Boys and girls do not have to do or say anything to receive their gifts. Stone Hill’s goal again this year is to pack in excess of 300 shoe boxes with toys, toiletry items, school supplies, clothing and most of all love. Each box receives a postcard picture of the group of volunteers who helped to pack the boxes as a way for the young person to put a face with their gift, and hope that they can feel loved through the giving of the gift.

II. Backpack Packing Party for Local Children– This packing party is held simultaneously with the Operation Christmas Child Party – Begun in 2017 this event packs backpacks for local children in Southeastern Pennsylvania, as way of showing love to those in need in region during the holiday season. Using Backpacks filled with school supplies, Toys, games, clothing and Toiletries. It is the hope of all involved that these backpacks will bring some joy to the local young people who otherwise may have nothing at this time of year. In 2017 60 Backpacks were packed and distributed to need children in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. This year the hope is to do even more.

The potential thought would be if this is well received in Eastern PA by the PA AWWA Members we could then help facilitate similar events throughout the state in coming years.
