Scammers pose as utility workers trying to rip you off

Published 6:53 PM EDT Aug 19, 2015

SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY, Pa. —UGI is warning customers about scammers posing as utility workers because the company is hearing about more cases of it happening.

Scammers are showing up at homes and trying to rip people off over the phone.

There are some ways to prevent becoming a victim.

Legitimate UGI workers usually wear blue uniforms with a UGI logo, carry a photo ID, and drive marked, numbered vehicles.

Also, UGI does not do unannounced meter readings at night.

On the phone, scam callers claim you have unpaid bills, and tell you that your service is going to be shut off if you don’t pay right away over the phone.
