Position:  Water Operator II

Under the direction of the Superintendent and Water Division Chief Operator, operates and maintains the facilities of the water system; inspects and performs repair work on water facilities and equipment; monitors and maintains water sources, storage tanks, keeps various records pertaining to water system operations, dams, reservoirs and watershed. Able to perform basic trouble shooting of equipment and operating systems and, with assistance, effects repairs. Must possess skills and abilities to perform functions and duties in a responsible manner

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Reports to: Superintendent, Chief Water Operator

JOB DUTIES

  1. Demonstrate and promote safe work practices and safety rule compliance at the workplace at all times.
  2. Assist in the continual training and development of Division personnel.
  3. Maintain both written and electronic records for reporting of critical environmental reports required by regulatory agencies.
  4. Monitor and operate all water supply, treatment and storage facilities as directed and scheduled.
  5. Monitor process equipment and controls such as SCADA to ensure that all treatment processes are operating and performing efficiently at all Water Production Division Facilities.
  6. Make process control decisions based upon current and future operating conditions.
  7. Collect samples as directed by Operator 1 and or Water Division Chief Operator.
  8. Read and record necessary data from gauges, meters and SCADA for the efficient operation of the Water System.
  9. Carry out normal maintenance activates on all equipment and facilities as directed and scheduled.
  10. Performs other such related duties as assigned or necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Meet all job requirements for Operator 3 classification.
  2. Must hold and maintain a PA Water Treatment Operator certificate for the Borough Facilities’ class and subclasses
  3. Knowledge of safety rules, alertness in the observation of hazards and prevention of accidents.
  4. High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience with thorough knowledge, training and experience in Water production operations.
  5. Personal initiative, judgment, dependability and cooperation in performing work assignments.
  6. Ability to supervise and instruct employees. Consistently demonstrate leadership principles in working with all team members.
  7. As assigned, works weekends, holidays, shift work, and responds to emergency calls during off-duty hours.
  8. Possess computer skills demonstrating proficiency with software products such as those found in Microsoft Office including, but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook (or similar type software).
  9. Must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of independent remote process control actions within six months of appointment date to Operator 2.
  10. Physical ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance occasionally.
  11. Ability to walk on hard and uneven surfaces; working on ladders and scaffolding; climbing ladders up to top of all water facilities
  12. Hold a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operators License.
