This supervisory position requires a comprehensive knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of a public water system with wells as the primary sources of supply along with an oxidation/filtration plant for manganese removal, storage tanks and a distribution system.   The position requires Class A operator certification and knowledge and experience operating pressure filtration facilities.   The position requires knowledge and experience with SCADA systems and ability to make adjustments to system operating parameters. A primary responsibility is maintaining the water system in compliance with PADEP monitoring and reporting requirements.  The position requires supervision of and providing direction to three or more water system technicians.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Oversee the proper operation of all well houses and treatment and ensure all electronic devices operate properly including SCADA system.
  • Ensure water quality meets DEP regulations.
  • Monitor budget expenditures throughout the year.
  • Supervise water system technicians, train and assist as necessary.
  • Coordinate, supervise and complete necessary construction, repairs and maintenance to the water system and flushing of distribution system.
  • Maintenance and repair of chemical metering pumps
  • Oversight of meter reading and billing
  • Snow plowing during snow fall events
  • Maintain current operator’s certification
  • Customer service

Work Environment:

The work is mainly indoor and supervisory in nature, but field work will be required for distribution system repairs and for snow plowing.

Physical Demands:

The worker may be required to sit, stand, walk or drive plow truck for 4 hour durations in hot, cold and inclement weather conditions and to lift fifty pound loads.

Education and Experience:

10 years direct experience with a public water supply system similar to Hemlock Farms

Associate or Bachelor of Science Degree desirable.

Certifications or Licenses:

  • PA DEP Class A water system operator’s certification
  • Driver’s license
  • CDL desirable
