PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN WATER celebrates drinking water week with premiere of Hays Mine project video

Viewers provided up-close tour of completed project’s $101 million upgrades

MCMURRAY, Pa. (May 1, 2014) – In celebration of Drinking Water Week (May 4 -10, 2014), Pennsylvania American Water is premiering a video-guided tour of its newly improved and refurbished Hays Mine and Becks Run water treatment facilities.

“This video provides our customers with a chance to understand all of the steps that take place before they turn on their tap and high-quality water comes out,” said Pennsylvania American Water Communications and External Affairs Director Terry Maenza. “It also puts into the perspective the value and affordability of tap water, as well as the importance of making critical investments in our water infrastructure.”

Pennsylvania American Water completed the approximately $101 million upgrade of the Hays Mine Treatment Plant and Becks Run Pumping station during the summer of 2013, representing the largest capital improvement projects in the company’s history. The approximately 10-minute video documents the drinking water treatment process and how the infrastructure improvements will ensure compliance with future water quality standards, as well as improve public safety at the more than 100-year-old facilities.

Beginning on May 4, 2014, the video will available for viewing on the company’s YouTube channel (youtube.com/paamwater) and Facebook page (facebook.com/pennsylvaniaamwater). Viewing opportunities also are available on the following community access channels:

  • City of Pittsburgh: channels 21 for Comcast subscribers and 67 on Verizon Fios
  • Upper St. Clair Township: 42 on Verizon FIOS
  • Mount Lebanon: channels 17 for Comcast subscribers and 17 on Verizon Fios
